How does solar energy work to support wildlife?

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) was launched in January 2020 to replace the previous Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) scheme.

It is a UK government initiative introduced to encourage the use of renewable energy sources and limit the amount of carbon emissions produced.

Under the SEG, homes and businesses that generate their own electricity from renewable sources such as solar panels are eligible to receive payments for any excess energy they generate and supply back to the grid.

Designed to provide a fairer, more transparent system for small-scale electricity generators, the SEG allows suppliers to offer different rates and tariffs based on market conditions and their own commercial interests, unlike the FIT scheme.

When applying for the SEG, you should shop around for the best tariff to suit your circumstances.

We recommend the Octopus Flux tariff which is specifically designed for people with solar and battery installations and tends to offer a higher export payment than other suppliers.

It offers cheap rates between the hours of 2am-5am to charge battery storage units meaning you don’t have to buy power from the grid during peak times.

The SEG is a positive step towards a more sustainable energy future, as it encourages the use of renewable energy sources and supports small-scale electricity generators. By incentivising the use of renewable energy, the UK can reduce its carbon footprint and move towards a cleaner, greener future.

Last year, Future Power Team supported The Eastmoor Community Project and donated pyjamas to their Children’s Christmas Appeal. The Eastmoor Community Project, based at St Swithun’s Community Centre in Wakefield, aims to provide for members of its community who are under the strain of financial difficulties. Their Children’s Christmas Appeal is just one of many examples of how they go the extra mile for their users and the wider community. It saw both businesses and individuals come together to provide food, toys, clothes and pairs of warm pyjamas to families and children in desperate need of warmth in the cold winter months.
