Store your solar, sell it at peak. Your battery becomes a tiny power station.

Pair a FoxESS smart battery with Octopus Intelligent Flux — the smart tariff that pays you the 4–7pm peak rate for the energy you export. Bank your daytime solar, then sell it back during the peak window at roughly double a standard export rate. On Flux your import and export prices always match. Typical Yorkshire systems save around £1,000–£1,400 a year (solar + battery + Flux combined). Flux rates vary by region — we'll confirm yours.

HOW THE DAILY CYCLE WORKS

One battery, two paydays — every single day.

Standard solar saves you money once — when the sun hits your roof and you use the electricity for free. FoxESS + Octopus Intelligent Flux lets your solar pay twice — once when you generate and use it, and again when your battery sells the stored surplus back to the grid during the 4–7pm peak.

Intelligent Flux has two simple price bands and, crucially, your import and export price always match. Off-peak (most of the day) both sit at roughly ~23p/kWh; during the 4–7pm peak they rise together to around ~28–32p/kWh. So the solar you've banked in the battery earns the peak rate when you export it — roughly double a standard ~14p export rate. The FoxESS app and Octopus's API handle the timing automatically — you don't toggle anything.

A typical Yorkshire system saves around £1,000–£1,400 a year — solar self-use, battery time-shifting and Flux peak-export combined — and most FPT systems pay for themselves in roughly 7–10 years. Flux rates are regional and change periodically, so we'll confirm your exact numbers at survey.

FROM ENQUIRY TO PEAK EXPORT

Four steps to a battery that sells your solar at peak.

The whole process — survey, install, Octopus enrolment, schedule setup — typically takes 2–4 weeks. After commissioning, the savings start the same day the meter is read.

01

Install a FoxESS battery + solar

FoxESS EP6 (or larger) connected to your home with a FoxESS hybrid inverter. The FoxESS app talks to the battery on-site and to Octopus Flux in the cloud. Most installs commission in 1–2 days.

02

Sign up to Octopus Intelligent Flux

Switch your domestic electricity to Octopus Energy and enrol on the Intelligent Flux tariff. Flux is available specifically to homes with a compatible battery — we'll walk you through eligibility at commissioning.

03

Bank your solar, export at peak

Through the day your battery stores the solar you don't use. During the 4–7pm peak the FoxESS / Octopus integration exports the surplus back to the grid at the peak rate (~28–32p/kWh) — roughly double a standard export rate. You don't touch a button; the schedule is automatic.

04

Watch the savings stack

Solar self-use, battery time-shifting and Flux peak-export combine to save a typical Yorkshire household around £1,000–£1,400 a year. Combined with generating your own power, the system typically pays for itself in roughly 7–10 years.

WHERE THE SAVINGS COME FROM

The maths, line by line.

Most installers throw around big savings numbers without showing the workings. Here's roughly how a mid-case Yorkshire family home — 4.75 kWp solar, 6 kWh FoxESS battery, on Octopus Intelligent Flux — gets to around £1,050/year.

Figures are approximate 2026 Yorkshire estimates using mid-range Octopus Flux rates, which are regional and change periodically. Your exact figures will vary by tariff, usage pattern, battery size and roof orientation — we'll model your specifics during the survey.

TYPICAL ANNUAL SAVING — ITEMISED
  • Standard tariff baseline £0

Pay one rate all day, with a basic export rate for anything sent back

  • Solar self-consumption +£500

Generate and use your own electricity instead of buying it

  • Battery evening shift +£250

Run your home off stored solar through the evening, avoiding peak import

  • Flux peak export +£300

Export surplus stored solar in the 4–7pm peak at ~30p/kWh — roughly double a standard ~14p export rate

  • Typical total saving ~£1,050/yr

Mid-case Yorkshire home, 6 kWh battery, 4.75 kWp solar — approximate, varies by usage and region

What is Octopus Intelligent Flux — and how does the Flux tariff actually work? +
Octopus Intelligent Flux (often just called 'Octopus Flux' or 'Intelligent Flux') is Octopus Energy's smart battery tariff. It's for homes that have a compatible battery installed. Once enrolled, Octopus's API talks directly to your battery's app (e.g. the FoxESS app) and automates the daily schedule — you don't toggle anything. Flux has just two price bands and, importantly, your import and export prices always match: a peak window from 4–7pm at the higher rate, and an off-peak rate the rest of the day. The value for a solar home is that you can export your stored solar during the peak window at that higher rate. Rates are regional and adjust periodically — always check octopus.energy for the current rates in your area before signing up.
Which batteries are Octopus Intelligent Flux compatible? Is the FoxESS smart battery one of them? +
Yes — FoxESS is listed on Octopus's Intelligent Flux compatible-battery list. The current list (2026) also includes Tesla Powerwall, Sigenergy SigenStor, GivEnergy, SolarEdge, Enphase and others. FoxESS support is relatively recent and Octopus updates this list periodically, so we'll confirm your system's current Flux eligibility with Octopus at survey. FoxESS is our most-recommended pairing for Yorkshire homes because of the price-to-feature ratio, the app integration with Octopus's API, and FoxESS's strong UK distributor presence — but other listed brands work too, and we'll discuss the right fit during your survey.
What are the current Intelligent Octopus Flux rates? +
Intelligent Flux has two bands and your import and export prices always match. As an approximate 2026 guide: off-peak (most of the day) is roughly ~23p/kWh for both import and export, and the 4–7pm peak is roughly ~28–32p/kWh for both. There is no separate low "overnight" rate on Flux itself — the cheap-overnight rate you may have seen is a different tariff (Octopus Go). Flux rates are regional and Octopus revises them periodically, so always check octopus.energy for the live rate in your postcode. The savings model on this page uses mid-range 2026 figures and is illustrative — we'll model your specifics at survey.
What is Octopus Intelligent Flux, in plain terms? +
A smart battery tariff from Octopus Energy with two price bands — a 4–7pm peak and an off-peak rate the rest of the day — where your import and export price always match. For a solar + battery home, the win is that you can export the solar you've stored during that 4–7pm peak at the higher rate (roughly double a standard export rate). It's designed for homes with a battery and works particularly well with FoxESS, which integrates directly with the Octopus API.
How much can I save on FoxESS + Octopus Intelligent Flux? +
A typical Yorkshire solar + battery + Flux system saves in the region of £1,000–£1,400 a year combined (solar self-use, battery time-shifting and Flux peak-export). The exact figure depends on your battery size, household usage pattern, roof orientation and the live regional Flux rates. We can model your specific savings on a 30-minute call after looking at your bills.
Is FoxESS compatible with Octopus Intelligent Flux? +
Yes — FoxESS is listed among the battery brands compatible with Octopus Intelligent Flux, and the FoxESS app handles the Flux scheduling automatically once you've enrolled with Octopus Energy. Other compatible brands include Tesla Powerwall, Sigenergy, GivEnergy and SolarEdge. FoxESS support is fairly new and Octopus revises its supported-battery list periodically, so we'll confirm current eligibility for your exact setup at survey — FoxESS is our most-recommended pairing for Yorkshire homes either way.
Do I need solar panels to use Octopus Intelligent Flux? +
Yes — Intelligent Flux requires both solar panels and a compatible home battery (plus a smart meter sending half-hourly readings). It's a solar-and-battery tariff, not a battery-only one. That's by design — your daytime solar fills the battery for free, ready to export during the 4–7pm peak, far better economics than buying grid energy to do the same. The solar + FoxESS battery combination we install is exactly what Octopus needs to enrol you.
How does Future Power Team set up FoxESS for Octopus Flux? +
We install the FoxESS battery + hybrid inverter as part of any standard solar package. At commissioning we walk you through the FoxESS app, help you enrol with Octopus Energy if you're not already, and configure the Intelligent Flux schedule. The whole setup takes about 30 minutes after the physical install is complete. We'll also help you submit any first-month tariff queries to Octopus directly.
Are Octopus Flux rates guaranteed? +
No — Octopus Energy adjusts Flux rates periodically with the wholesale market, and rates vary by region. The figures we quote (off-peak ~23p, peak ~28–32p, import and export matched) are approximate 2026 guides. Octopus publishes current rates on their website and we'll always recommend you check the live rate for your postcode before signing up.
What FoxESS battery size do I need for Intelligent Flux? +
Minimum 6 kWh — enough to cover a typical evening peak window. 10–15 kWh is the sweet spot for most Yorkshire households. Above 15 kWh starts to hit diminishing returns since you can only export at the rated inverter capacity during the peak window. Our published 'Most Popular' residential package includes a 6 kWh FoxESS battery configured for Flux at £6,795 fully installed.
Can I combine Octopus Flux with EV charging? +
Yes. Octopus also has a separate Intelligent Octopus Go EV tariff with a genuinely cheap overnight window for charging your car. Many customers run both: solar generation → battery storage on Flux → off-peak EV charging on Intelligent Octopus Go → peak export of any battery surplus. We'll help you work out the best combination for your household.
