WHY ACCREDITATIONS MATTER

The fragmented map of UK solar regulation.

Solar installation is a regulated trade in the UK, but the regulation is fragmented across half a dozen schemes. Each scheme covers something different — product quality, electrical competence, consumer protection, financial recourse, deposit security. A genuinely safe installer holds membership of all of them; an unsafe one usually holds none or just MCS (which is the cheapest to get and the easiest to lose).

Below is the full list of certifications Future Power Team holds, what each one actually covers, and the public register where you can confirm our status. We don't dress these up — every accreditation is a tool you can use to verify us, and if any of them ever lapsed, that's the first sign you should pick someone else.

MCS

Microgeneration Certification Scheme

MCS Certified Installer

WHAT IS MCS?

MCS is the UK quality assurance scheme for low-carbon energy products and the contractors that install them. It sets minimum performance standards for solar panels, batteries, inverters and heat pumps, and audits the installers who fit them. Without an MCS certificate at hand-off, you cannot register for the Smart Export Guarantee or any future feed-in incentive — meaning you would lose access to the export-side of your tariff savings.

WHY IT MATTERS FOR YOU

If your installer is not MCS certified, you will be unable to register your system for SEG export payments and will lose access to most renewable-energy mortgage products. MCS also operates a complaint resolution process: if an installer goes out of business and you have a defect, MCS's compensation scheme can step in. It is the single most important certification to verify before any deposit changes hands.

NAPIT

National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers

NAPIT Registered Electrical Contractor

WHAT IS NAPIT?

NAPIT is a UK government-approved Competent Person Scheme for electricians. NAPIT-registered contractors are independently audited and qualified to self-certify electrical work under Part P of the Building Regulations. This covers the electrical installation side of any solar / battery commission — wiring, isolators, consumer-unit changes, DNO-compliant connections.

WHY IT MATTERS FOR YOU

NAPIT registration means our electrical work is signed off without you needing to apply separately to Building Control. For a solar install with a battery and new isolator, the saving is around £400 in Building Control fees alone — plus an undeniably shorter project timeline. If a non-registered installer fits your system, you must apply to Building Control yourself.

RECC

Renewable Energy Consumer Code

RECC Member

WHAT IS RECC?

RECC is the OFGEM-approved consumer code for the UK renewable energy market. RECC members are bound to a code of conduct covering sales conduct, contract terms, deposit protection, cancellation rights, technical accuracy and after-sales support. Members are audited annually and a public complaint-resolution process is available to every customer.

WHY IT MATTERS FOR YOU

RECC membership is what protects you from the sales-pressure horror stories the renewable industry occasionally produces. Bound by RECC, we cannot use hard-close sales tactics, must give you a 14-day cooling-off period after signing, must hold deposits in protected accounts, and must provide accurate generation estimates using MCS-MIS3002 methodology. If we ever broke any of these, you have free recourse to RECC's alternative dispute resolution scheme.

IWA

IWA Insurance-Backed Workmanship Warranty

Insurance-Backed Workmanship Warranty

WHAT IS IWA?

An Insurance-Backed Workmanship Warranty (IBG) is a workmanship guarantee underwritten by an FCA-regulated insurer. It survives the installer — if FPT ceased trading, the insurer would step in to honour any workmanship defects for the full warranty period. The product warranties on panels, inverters and batteries come from the manufacturers; the IBG covers the install itself.

WHY IT MATTERS FOR YOU

A regular workmanship warranty is only as good as the company that issued it. If your installer goes out of business, an uninsured warranty becomes worthless. An IBG transfers the risk to an FCA-regulated insurer — meaning the warranty lasts for the full term whatever happens to the installer. This is the difference between "5-year guarantee" and "5-year guarantee you can actually claim against."

TrustMark

TrustMark Government-Endorsed Quality Scheme

TrustMark Approved

WHAT IS TRUSTMARK?

TrustMark is the government-endorsed quality scheme covering work a consumer chooses to have carried out in or around their home. TrustMark-approved firms are vetted on technical competence, trading standards and customer service, and TrustMark operates an independent dispute resolution process and a financial protection layer over and above MCS / RECC.

WHY IT MATTERS FOR YOU

TrustMark sits on top of MCS and RECC as a meta-scheme verifying that all the other accreditations are kept current. It is one of the criteria for various UK government grant schemes (including ECO4 and the upcoming Boiler Upgrade Scheme variants). If your installer is not TrustMark approved, you may be ineligible for those grants regardless of your other qualifying criteria.

Is Future Power Team MCS certified? +

Yes — Future Power Team Ltd has been MCS certified for solar PV and battery storage installation since 2019. You can verify our status directly on the MCS register at mcscertified.com/find-an-installer/?company=Future+Power+Team.

What's the difference between MCS and NAPIT? +

MCS certifies the renewable energy installer (you, the company). NAPIT certifies the electrician (the individual fitting the system). A solar installer should hold both — MCS for the product / system qualification, NAPIT for the electrical competence to wire it in. Future Power Team holds both.

Do I need to use an MCS certified installer for solar? +

Yes if you want to register for the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) or claim under any future renewable energy incentive — only MCS-certified installs are eligible. You also need MCS certification for most renewable energy mortgage products. Non-MCS installers can still legally install solar, but you will lose access to the export tariff side of your savings.

What is RECC and why does it matter? +

RECC is the Renewable Energy Consumer Code — the OFGEM-approved consumer-protection scheme for the UK renewables industry. Future Power Team provides a 5-year IBG on every install — meaning the warranty is enforceable even if we were no longer trading in 5 years.

How do I verify a solar installer's accreditations? +

Every certification body publishes a free, public register. Search for the installer on each body's own search tool — mcscertified.com, search.napit.org.uk, recc.org.uk, trustmark.org.uk. If an installer can't be found on the register they claim membership of, do not give them a deposit. The verification links on this page take you directly to FPT's listing on each register.
